Whats the first thing you think of when you hear, "I lied to you to protect you." Do you really think it is to protect you or to protect the person who is lying?
I personally think that they are lying to protect themselves. Like come on if you wanted to protect me you would tell me the truth. For example your boyfriend cheats in you and the girl he did it with confronts you at the mall and you two get into it. He did not tell you because he wanted to protect himself not you.
For the record, I TOTALLY took the title the wrong way ;D Anyways, I instantly think that the liar is just trying to protect themselves from being on my bad side. Now, if we're talking about a little girl whose doggie died while she was away at camp and her parents said that he ran away, I think that that kind of lie to protect is a little more acceptable than a husband lying to his wife about working late so he can go out and cheat. But, from my experience people only say "I lied to protect you" just to protect THEMSELVES not to protect someone else's feelings.
i say "to protect me from what?!" im a big girl...i can take the truth. there are many different situations that can apply here. like the one bethany mentioned that involved the little girl and her dog...i guess it just depends on the situation, but most of the time, i would tend to say that they are just trying to protect themselves.
I am going to have to agree with Katie. It definitely depends on the situation, but probably in most cases, the person is just being selfish and thinking about themselves. So if someone was say talking bad about me, of course I would want to know. Not wanting to know would be running away from a problem and being afraid to deal with it. Even if the person was really trying to protect me, I would have to say that I am old enough to handle it, and having people "protecting" me all the time, won't allow me to learn and grow as a person.
Don't take the title the wrong way perv...Bethany!
