Going Potty??
My book is set in the 1920s after slavery when there was still segregation. The main characters are traveling on a train for 3 days, and when they stop at stations to use the restrooms or to change trains, some stations don't have toilets for black people. The black women are told they must use the fields across from the station, while men sit and watch them. If you were put in this situation would you use it or what would you do?

I wouldn't use it just because it would be so degrading. Also it's just outrageous that someone should be forced to go through something like that. Not ever being in that particular situation I can't know for sure but I think if it was dire enough I might go through with it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I honestly wouldn't care. Ya it would be a little embarrassing, but whatever if you gotta go you gotta go. What kind of perv would want to watch you go to the bathroom anyway. I mean SICK! So if they were watching you they have some problems of their own, just saying. I dont really think that its that big of a deal anyway, if its in the fields then can they really see you? Thats when you moon them ;)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't go unless I ABSOLUTELY had to. Like Eddi said, its degrading. I'm sure that in the fields there would be tall grass and what not to shield you from the perverted eyes that watched you, but I wouldn't go just for the simple fact that I would feel like less of a human in other people's eyes if i stooped the level of the people who were persecuting me.
