Born Psychotic? Or Revenge?

The man who is Emily's kidnapper was once a father. His daughter was a drug addict, like Emily, but she was killed while in rehab. His reasoning for kidnapping Emily is to help her get better, and to make her his replacement daughter. However, things get way out of control, to the point where Emily's mother is being held at gunpoint by him. Are people like this born delusional, or is it just a matter of fulfilling what once was, or revenge?

    I think he wasn't born delusional. Because of what happened with his daughter he might have gone a tab bit crazy and seeing Emily in the same curcumstances probably made him feel like since he has been through this he could help her more than anyone else could.

    Yeah,I don't think he was born like that, he just is reacting from his loss. The love for his daughter is killing him with pain, probably to the point of delusion, and thus creates the situation of the kidnapping. In his mind he thinks that he is helping her, and he will do anything to save her, like it was his own daughter.
