I think it depends on if you read the book before you saw the movie or vice versa. If you saw the movie first then you probably like it more if you decide to later read the book. If you read the book first then you might notice things that were left out or changed so that bothers you and you don't like the movie as much as you liked the book.
The books are always better than the movie, in most cases. I'm reading the Princess Bride, and I really like both the movie and the book and I still can't decide which one is better. The book just gives more details and descripions that are given through the authors voice. The movie is shown by the directions interpretation of the book. So it just depends.
I normally like both. I like to read the book first and then watch the movie. If you have already seen the movie then you know what happens and books have a lot more detail and if I already know what is going to happen then I will loose patience and get bored.
I personally don't enjoy reading very much so I enjoy movies more than books. There has been only a few books that I have enjoyed more than movies. I am a very visual person so I like to see something happening instead of having to read about it. I don't like open ended types of things, I like to know what happens and not have to come up with my own ending.
