Do you have older friends so close to you that you eventually consider them family? I am reading the notebook, Noah is in his thirties and his best friend at the time is Gus, a 70 year old black man. Why do you think people befriend older people?
Maybe the people think that the older person is lonely. I know that when I get older I do not want to sit alone in a oom all the time with no one to talk to. That would be a depressing life if no one ever came to see you. Older people need love too.
Just because people age and get older does not mean that they didn't have a life or go through experiences that you can relate to. Now there seems to be such a barrier between generations because people automatically stereotype each other into certain catagories. If you're a teenager you think all elderly people are the same, if you're elderly you think all teenagers are hooligans with raging hormones. If you stopped and thought about it I think it would be possible that you could have a lot of things in common with someone who was a lot older or even a lot younger than you. You just have to find a way to relate.
i personally love hanging out with older people and find myself to get along with them a lot better than i do most people my age. i dont know the exact reason for that, but it has just happened. many people are very different in the way they think, so that may be why some older people, or some younger people find it hard to interact with different generations. i am around a lot of older people b/c of where i work so i am used to it and i have grown to love older people. one of the main reasons is b/c they have gone through a lot of tough times, even though it may not be exactly what we are going through right now, they have a lot of useful knowledge and i love hearing about their experiences as a child and teen.
My sister is my best friend and I honestly think that a big part of why she is, is because shes 9 years older than me. She is always someone who I can go to for advice and to talk to about anything. When I'm having problems at home I talk to her because she grew up in the same house as me and dealt with all the same things. So I guess this is kinda opposite of what you asked but I do have friends who are like my sisters!
