affection

The girl in my book is falling in love with a man of higher class, and the feeling is mutual. But she won't let the relationship go anywhere because he needs to marry a Lady, not a dairymaid. Does anything like this happen in modern times? Is there such thing as a "forbidden" relationship?

  1. WHAT?! Thats so stupid! If I were her Id be like heck yes Im going to marry up and be a lady myself, no more dairymaid for me! Thats crazy, but I dont think there really is anymore forbidden relationships because everything that was once wrong is now ok. An example would be like when a black person and a white person are in a relationship That use to be so wrong and was frowned upon, but now it isnt a big deal you see that on a normal day. There are may other things that were once rejected and now accepted so I dont tnink there really is such thing.

  2. I don't think that there ever was "forbidden" relationships. Just because it wasn't socially acceptable doesn't mean that there weren't people that were willing to overlook those "rules". But in a sense I suppose that yes, there are some relationships that people would not approve of because of social status even today. A wealthier person might be seem, by some, as odd if they choose to marry someone that was maybe poor, or not as well off.

  3. Um.. yeah. "forbiden" reltionships happen all the time. I mean look at the tabloids. Tiger Woods is accused of having 6 'forbidden relationships' right now. haha.
But, serously, in this day and age, it seems like the only time a forbidden realtionship happens in is a case of cheating. Social status has nothing to do with it nowdays.

  4. "Forbiden" relationshiips happen alot. Like with a boss and their employee. Thats not aloud and yet people do it all the time. With very rich people if some one wanted to marry a maid they would be frowned apon. And with racest people if their daughter wanted to marry or date someone of a different race then they would have to keep their relationship a secret.

  5. i know for a fact that there are certain relationships that society looks down apon. like back in a bit older times it was not "correct" for a black man to date a white woman and vise versa. and it is not really "right" to date someone with different religious beliefs. and it is also looked down apon when there is a big age difference...there are a lot of "forbidden" relationships out there, i just think that as a younger generation we dont really see it as that bad as the older generations do.
