Should people with down syndrome be allowed to live by themselves or should they always have supervision?

  1. It really depends on the case. If they can take care of themselves then yes they should be allowed to live their like without supervision. But there are also some cases where the persons condition is worse than anothers and they need supervision to help them with everyday life things.

  2. I believe that they should be able to live by themselves but have supervision also. What I mean by this is, that someone should check on them at least once a day and help them out when needed. But they need to be able to fend for themselves somehow. Even if they have down syndrome they still have the capability to live by themselves.

  3. This is a touchy subject, and I'm not quite familar with people who have down syndrome. But I suppose it would have to depend how severe it is. Obviously, if they can't take care of themselves then, no. But if they can preform basic tasks and live in a house where they wouldn't accidently hurt themselves, then maybe. But then what if something bad happens and they are all alone and don't even know what to do? Should there be a supervisor, or is just too much trouble to go through all of that? Like I said, I'm not too familar with what down syndrome limits, so I'd have to learn more about it.

  4. I agree with Robyn. I don't know very much about down syndrome but if the person living with it is able to take care of themselves and has a way of paying for the place their living in, along with food, ect, then I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be able to live alone. I do also think they should have someone checking on them. A phone call or stopping by a couple times a day would be good to start out with.
