It is said that when people we love pass away, they never truly leave us because their memories live on in our hearts. If this is true why is it that after a period of time we begin to forget what their voice sounded like or the shape of their face?
Maybe our memorys lock themselves deep into the subconcence of our minds. The mind reconizes the memory as being important to us so the memory locks itself into your mind.
I will never forget the sound of my daddy's voice, or what he looks like, its been eleven years since he passed away. His memory lives in my heart, and I know that I will see him again one day, and this comforts me. and I also like to think that he is watching me from the windows of heaven. So that he has a front row seat in the important things in my life.
I think that the memories we have of people are the things we experience. We remember them because it can be a vague memory it isnt anything specific, but something like a voice. A voice is something specific that you must hear constantly and after some time you will forget the sound. As much as you dont want to forget, I think it makes letting go easier.
as hard as it is to lose someone, and as hard as it is to say this...you will eventually forget the sound of their voice, only because you do not hear it every day. fortunately for me, i have not yet forgotten my mothers, sometimes i will laugh and it sounds just like hers. it always makes me smile when that happens. and i have several pictures of her so i know i will never forget what she looks like..even if i didnt have those pictures, i have way too many memories of her to ever forget what she was like.
I agree with becca and katie that the reason we forget voices is because we are not hearing them constantly. The main character in my book lost his wife and still hasn't found a way to move on. I think that is a little unhealthy, you can let go and move on without having to totally forget them. This character still wears his wedding ring four years after she died. Now there is a new person in his life and he is attracted to her and wants to move because that is what his wife wanted him to do after she died, but he just can't seem to figure out how. She was his wife so he should never have to let her go completely but when he begins to take it out on his brother who has Down Syndrome, it has gotten a little out of control.
