Helping a Drug Addict

The main character in my book, Emily, is a teenage drug addict. Her mom and brother are extremely concerned about her mental and physical well-being, so they stage an intervention. What would you do if you had a loved-one who was heading down the wrong path like Emily?

  1. I have a loved one that struggles with addiction. At first I though she could help it and she just did not want to be around me. But a I got older I ralized that with addiction you can not really ever stop the craving. The only thing I realized I could do was try to take care of her and eventually she went to rehab but I honestly think she still does them occasionally.

  2. If I had a relative that was a drug addict I would do everything in my power to get them help. You never want to insult a family member but at some point it just doesn't matter anymore about their feelings or how harshly you have to put things it that's what it takes to make them realize that what they are doing could kill them. Things like drug and alcohol addiction doesn't just affect the people that are hooked, it affects the whole family and anyone they are surrounded by. If a mother is addicted to meth while she is pregnant her child could ultimately pay the price for her bad decision.

  3. thats hard to say. yes i would like to help this person but in the long run its going to have to be them that makes the decision for themselves... i always say that people have to grow up sometime and realize that they can over come the things that they face and their addictions.... they just have to want to. if they don't than all you can do is just help them get there...
