Sacrifices
In my book one of the characters has to give up going to college to take care of his ill sister and has to settle for a minimum wage job. If you were put in this situation would you put your goals and future on the back burner to take care of your sister or would you try and find someone else who could take care of her?

I would take care of my sister! Yes, life would be hard to get through for a while, but she is your sister and always will be. No one can really care for her as well as her own sister. You know her better than anyone else and dont you think your sister would care for you if you were sick? I would expect my sister to care for me so I would do the same for her. You can always go back to school, this would be difficult, but you can still go back and finish up schooling. If she is that sick then what if she died and you werent there with her, I would feel horrible and then have to live knowing that you pawned your sister off on someone to care for her when it should have been you...ya I would definatly take care of her myself.
ReplyDeleteI would try to do both. I would find a family member, close friend or even a daycare provider to look after her during the day while I attend college classes and pick her up in the afternoon to take care of her. I could even take online classes if it came down to that -- sure its not the 'college experience' that I had in mind but I wouldn't abandon my sister. That way she wouldn't have to go into foster care and I could still go to college, get a degree and accomplish my goals.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't put my plans on hold without hesitation if I needed to care for my sister. I would much rather look back 20 years from now and know that I did everything I could to keep her healthy instead of going off to college and wishing I had spent more time with her. It's also possible to take online classes which is something I would probably try to do in order to earn more money in the future.
ReplyDeleteI would tke care of my sister, not only is she my best friend but also she may not have that much longer. And you can always go back to college, yes it would take longer to get your desired career but in the end it may be worth it.
ReplyDeleteI would do both. There are lots of students that have jobs while they go to college. I think that even though it would be difficult, I wouldn't be able to give up one for the other. Of course I'm not just going to let my sister have to take care of herself when she is sick, but also what happens when she gets better? I need to look out for my future as well. What if she winds up being sick for a very long time? I think that having a college degree would help me to get a better job and therefore I would be able to take care of her better because we would have more resources.
